After a lengthy consultation with parents, pupils and staff, we have finalised our homework policy and the new Family Learning Boards have now been issued, except for P1.
At Quarryhill, we believe that homework should:
• be manageable for everyone involved and at a suitable level
• help reinforce and extend children’s learning
• be fun and involve interesting activities
• link to life skills and Developing a Young Workforce (DYW)
• not cost money!
• be supported by parents, peers and teachers
• relevant and challenging
• not be the same every week…
Homework will be given on termly basis and will consist of a Family Learning Board.
Reading is a weekly expectation and guidance will be issued accordingly.
Teachers will check in with the children on a regular basis to see progress.
Each child will be given a a paper copy of the Family Learning Board which will be worked on over the first two terms. Teachers will check in regularly with pupils to see how they are getting on. You may wish to send pictures via Dojo to the class teacher. The jotters/ folders provided can be used to support learning at home, however there is no expectation that the jotters will be handed in weekly.
There are a number of apps and websites that can also support learning at home and can be found on the last page of our homework policy, which is attached.
If you have any questions, concerns or need clarification about any part of the homework then please, in the first instance, get in touch with your child’s class teacher.
We will be looking for feedback on our new Family Learning Boards soon.
